On clothing I've only seen it twice, but already it annoys me to no end.
She could feel people staring at her; they thought she was a whore.
In both cases the Sues women in question were wearing period appropriate clothes and not hanging out in that part of town frequented by whores and people who want to make use of their services. Maybe it's just me, but unless I see someone in that particular part of town dressed particularly scampy, I'm not going to think they are a whore. But then, I barely even notice strangers I pass in the street much less have opinions about their profession.
So, dear author, no, I am not going to feel sympathy for your character for being judged by perfect strangers. I might if the judgment had been passed realistically and wrongly; as it stands it's more likely the judgment is unrealistic yet right. |

Full Name (plus titles if any): Kelsey Culyer. I would have made the requisite ‘Grammer’ jokes, but the author’s English is not the problem.
Full Species(es): Puella ostentatia, the Brand-Sue.
Hair Color (include adjectives): “To describe her hair colour as dark brown would not do it justice, it was a chestnut colour with very subtle blond highlights…very finely layered and she had side swept bangs just long enough to cover one eye.” Thank you. This information will definitely help the readers to empathise with your protagonist.
Eye Color (include adjectives): “a very light brown, almost like melted topaz” Topaz can melt? At least it’s a real eye colour.
Unusual Markings/Colorations: None so far, but she is a smoker.

Fanthings, unless you're writing about the Japanese version... Crono's name is not Chrono. His name doesn't have the H in it. Chrono, as in Chrono Trigger, has the H. Crono does not. (You can't fall back on the "His name is Chrono in the Japanese version!" excuse because you're not using the Japanese names for any other characters, anyway.)
If you're going to claim you're the biggest fan of Chrono Trigger EVER in your author's notes, that you're even cosplaying as one of the characters when you go to buy the DS remake of Chrono Trigger... at least get the protagonist's name right. |

Jack O'Neill is not a rapist. Sam Carter is not a wimp who would just allow herself to be raped. Daniel Jackon, Teal'c and Janet Frasier (not 'Fraser' as you spelled it so many times) would not help Jack cover up the fact that he raped Sam. Are we watching the same show here?

That's what I get for reading rare-pairs.
Kind of a flipside to my previous rant.
If Tara happens to be with someone besides Willow in your fic, don't bash the hell out of Willow. They had that badness between them in season six, obviously, but that didn't extend to physical violence and Willow is not a whore, etc.
Why is there this compulsion amongst writers to turn characters into abusive jerk-offs out of nowhere? The temptation to lock them in a room and force them to watch/read the canon material over and over again is overwhelming. |

I laughed. I cried. I broke out in hives. Today I found a D.Gray-Man fic that caused my face to make faces that I was not aware my face could make. In this fic, Allen is a female who secretly lives as a male under the advisement of General Cross. Why he wants her to keep her true gender a secret is never explained. In any case, Allen also is not an orphan in this story. It turns out that she secretly has a family with a ton of brothers who own and live in a fancy inn. In this story, Allen traveled around with Mana simply because she wanted to escape her loud siblings. This makes perfect sense, right? In any case, Allen's true gender is discovered by Kanda. They proceed to have sex and start talking about making babies that very day. Naturally. Allen becomes pregnant. Meanwhile, Tyki is threatening and pressuring Lavi into sex. He tells him that if Lavi does what he wants him to, he'll make sure the other exorcists will never be harmed. (Because of course the Earl would stop his search for the Heart because Tyki wants sweet exorcist ass.) Tyki injects Lavi with something that makes it hard for Lavi to move. He throws him in his car (Yes, his car. A black Toyota, no less) and begins to molest him and call him things like "Bunny Boo" and "Bunny Poo" and other things that make bile rise in my throat. Lavi reacts to said drugging and molestation by admonishing Tyki's smoking habit, noticing how hot he is, and calling him "Tyki-pon". Because if you're going to be badtouched by the enemy, you might as well give them a cute nickname. They then bond over their shared love of anime music. Cue Tyki driving them to a hotel for a sex scene in which Lavi's anus is referred to as his "inner hole" the entire time. Hot. Lavi passes out afterwards and wakes up to find a note explaining that he's been injected with something again. This time it's an injection to turn him into a girl for 9 months, because he is now pregnant with Tyki's baby. And thus begins the Allen and Lavi double pregnancy hijinks at The Order which, by the way, is also a school in this fic. Where Tyki comes to be a history teacher. For some reason nobody has a problem with this. And so we get many beautiful scenes out of this situation, such as the one where Allen and Kanda go on a double-date to the mall with Tyki and Lavi. The "girls" try on pretty dresses and squee over baby clothes. Tyki buys Lavi pocky to cure her pregnancy cravings. All is right with the world and everyone is blissfully happy. Except Lenalee, who is a psychotic and murderous bitch in this fic. In fact, she loves Kanda and is jealous of his and Allen's true love. She slaps Allen, calls her a bitch, and proceeds to make plans to kill Allen's baby when it is born. Or, better yet, to push Allen down a flight of stairs to kill the fetus! Because surely that is how Lenalee would react to her two best friends starting a family together. Murdering their infant. Apparently fans agree with this characterization of Lenalee. If you look at the reviews, there are multiple ones applauding it. Says one, even, "I was going to make lenalee like that in my new story!" Oh goodie! It's contagious. ( Cut for sexual talk and brain melting madness. )Kanda making tiger sounds? Awesome. |

FULL NAME: Amortentia Snape SPECIES: Witch HAIR: "long, black" EYES: "violet. A ddep and royal purple". MARKINGS: "Porcealin skin, almost marble lookinf. As if she were simply a living statue." She has a "tired look". POSSESSIONS: A television and a nightgown. ORIGIN: Voldemort almost catches Harry in Diagon Alley when he is distracted by Snape's beautiful teenage daughter. CONNECTIONS TO CANON: She falls in love with Voldemort, "but will it last"? Snape isn't too pleased. SPECIAL ABILITIES: She can see through Disillusionment Charms. She was tortured, but mysteriously killed the boy who did it. She doesn't remember doing so. NOTES: This is amazingly creepy, and strange. Here is Voldemort's train of thought when he first sees her: "I'm standing here in Diagon Alley, invisible with a Disillusioment Charm. No one knows I'm here except Bellatrix and Lucius who are on either side of me. I see Potter and the blood under my skin boils. How I wish to get rid of him here right now. If only life were that easy. Potters out of sight now, but I do see Snape, coming out of the Apoctheary. He is unaware of my presence. Normally I let him know if I'm taking an excrusion into Diagon Alley, but this time I did not. I do so, simply to see if he acts diffrently when he thinks my eyes are not on him. So far he's doing the same but who is that with him? A young girl? Who is that? She has long, black hair, an a tired look about her, possibly fifteen or fourteen years old, Porcealin skin, almost marble lookinf. As if she were simply a living statue. What catches my attention is her eyes. There violet. A ddep and royal purple. They are... Captivating, for lack of a better word. Lucius and Bellatrix seem to notice Snape and the girl as well." How is this normal and not creepy? Also, it is not a troll, that's why I didn't rate it "troll". Just felt like saying that now, before all of the "troll" comments start coming in. Could someone explain the pureblood mania in the HP fandom to me?
I mean, I've read fics where purebloods have inherently stronger magic than non-purebloods--despite that Voldemort nearly took over the world twice, Harry has shown himself to be a pretty competent wizard, purebloods Ron and Neville aren't exactly the epitomes of power, and oh, two words: HERMIONE GRANGER.
I've read fics where purebloods have bloodlines stretching back millenia...Which meant that either Anglo-Saxon barbarians kept unexpectedly good family histories or they were originally Romans...Which would be fine if those fics didn't also claim that those purebloods families had been "tied to the land" for those selfsame millenia or something ludicrous like that.
So what's with the glorification of "purebloods"? It's a pretty obviously Aryanesque contrivance. There's nothing in canon that has shown in the least that purebloods are any better than non-purebloods. Indeed, the books go out of their way to emphasize that point. Is there some sort of "Let's Worship the Aristocracy, Because Obviously They've Always Been Such Great People" club that I haven't been invited to? |

Hey Pushing Daisies Authors!
1) The name of the town that Ned and Chuck grew up in is spelt Coeur de Couers, not Cour de Cors or any other bullshit you decide to come up with. Not knowing French spelling is not an excuse since you have the internet as a research tool.
2) Don't attempt to write House crossovers just because you noticed that Chi McBride has appeared in both shows. Pushing Daises takes place in an alternate universe America (or even Canada if some conspiracy theories are to be believed) with a sketchy time period. Crossovers with shows that do not have magical/alien/supernatural elements in them and shows with one set time period are much harder to pull off sucessfully. I'm sure a good writer can write a great House/Pushing Daisies crossover, but I haven't seen one yet.

Having sex during a panic attack is probably a bad idea. Now, I know not all panic attacks are the same and not everyone responds the same way to the same things during them (hell, I respond differently depending on which panic attack I'm having), but sexing someone up while they're hyperventilating is generally considered a BAD IDEA.
You see, the general definition of a panic attack - and it's very general - is, according to the Mayo Clinic, "a sudden episode of intense fear that develops for no apparent reason and that triggers severe physical reactions." They go on to add, "When panic attacks occur, you might think you're losing control, having a heart attack or even dying."
Does this sound to you like the time to be having sex? Would you want to get down and dirty with someone who thinks they are dying, the world is ending, and/or they are completely out of control and losing their mind? I really, really hope not.

As my icon might suggest, I haven't posted anything at the Pit for going on four years now. I certainly don't miss it, but it seems my stories are still readable, and I still get reviews on them from time to time. Apparently the banhammer wasn't as final as I thought it was, or something.
Most of the reviews are brief and nice, along the lines of 'hey i liked this rite moar plz,' some of them are random flames, and some of them would seem to be the result of a three-year-long grudge.
"What the hell? who writes a story in second person? there is no such thing as
second person unless you are writing a play. I've seen your reviews on other
stories.. before you go insulting other peoples stories... look at your own
and fix them please."
Now, I admit, I used to give some unnecessarily nastily-worded criticism when I was still active on the site ages ago, but this review isn't more than a week old. It was an anonymous review, so I had no way of knowing what I might have flamed in order to draw this person's ire, but really...three years later?
It's made even more baffling by the fact that the fic isn't in second person at all. It's in present tense, yeah, but there's such a big difference there that it took me a while to figure out what the hell the reviewer was talking about.
Is there something wrong with writing in present tense? I mean, I've heard that some people think it's kind of pretentious, but I just feel more comfortable with it. I feel kind of awkward writing in past--not that there's anything wrong with it, I'm just weird that way.
I'm not going to be annoyed over a bizarrely-timed bad review, but there is, indeed, 'such a thing' as present-tense prose, and it's not something that needs to be 'fixed.' |

On Crushes and Fanfictions... De-lurking to say this: 1. It's okay to think that bands like Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance, Tokio Hotel and others as your favorite band or even good looking as people, but please... keep your self insert fantasies to your self! Nobody wants to read your fanfiction!selfinsert!fantasies about making out with a random band member. 2. On behalf of my little sister who likes this movie..."Camp Rock", as she tells me, stars the Jonas brothers. Just because they star in the movie does not make them characters in this movie. The characters are just *played* by the Jonas brothers. The male characters are Shane, Jason and Nate. Please keep your fantasies about being one of the Jonas brothers' girlfriends to yourself. (is similar to the first rant) 3. (This is also similar to the above two rants) It's okay to think that actors/actresses are hot, but do not confuse them with their canon counterparts. For example, just because Tom Felton is good looking and a relatively nice guy in real life does not mean that Draco Malfoy is a handsome, decent guy. Malfoy remains a pale, angular, scrawny wimp and a bully. This goes for most books/comics/whatever that got made into a movie with handsome actors/actressess.
